Participants
Participants in the Youth Leadership Program will be members of the sophomore, junior or senior class of LaGrange High School, Troup High School, Callaway High School, LaGrange Academy, Dawson Street Christian Academy and Lafayette Christian School.
Applicants may be nominated by a teacher, administrator, counselor or past Youth Leadership Participant.
Purpose
The purpose of the Youth Leadership Program shall be to identify emerging leaders among the youth of the community and to provide them with an organized training program for the skills necessary to act in leadership capacities to address issues in their personal, academic, extracurricular and community involvements.
Program
Students who are selected as participants in Youth Leadership will be expected to attend a Ropes Course in August and five other sessions that will include programs on Leadership Styles, Etiquette, Communications, Goal Settings and Ethics/Morality.
Selection Criteria
Thirty students are selected after consideration of their recognized and potential leadership and the merit of their application.
Goals
At the conclusion of the Youth Leadership Program, participants will have developed a network of in-depth relationships with students of various backgrounds from throughout the community and will have gained a deeper insight and broader knowledge of leadership skills and community issues.
Attendance Policy
Attendance at the ropes course is mandatory due to the group cohesiveness that results from this program. Attendance at all other programs is required. If an emergency arises, a written explanation must be submitted to the Youth Leadership Board. The Board will determine if it is excused. If more than one session is missed, the student will not graduate, but will be allowed to make up the sessions the following year and graduate with that class.
Tuition
Tuition for Youth Leadership Program is $50.00 per participant. Scholarships are available for those students who need assistance. Tuition cost should not prevent anyone from applying to participate in the program.
